Sorry for necro'ing, only just got around to finishing the series. HUGE SPOILERS below, but given I'm probably the last person in the universe to have watched it and you've probably read all of the thread to get to this post, it shouldn't matter...
Quote: The show had potential but was ruined by being far to american.
I can see why you have that interpretation, but I don't agree with it. (and even if it was, that doesn't stop the writing being good, the acting being good etc)
Anyway, the finale was awesome and raised a lot of interesting questions. I thought the lawyer was a great character too and will hopefully see more of him
I was wondering why they chose All Along the Watchtower. It could just be that it's a very well known song, with enough cultural relevance and enough covers over the years (wikipedia lists 60 different artists that have covered it) that the audience can recognise it as iconic, as well as those four characters. The idea that the radiowaves picking it up close to the nebula and that cylons would be able to pick those up makes a lot of sense. However, it was mentioned by two of them in conversation that "it was like something heard in childhood" which raises questions about them coming from earth.
lyrics:
Quote: "There must be some way out of here," said the joker to the thief, "There's too much confusion, I can't get no relief. Businessmen, they drink my wine, plowmen dig my earth, None of them along the line know what any of it is worth."
"No reason to get excited," the thief, he kindly spoke, "There are many here among us who feel that life is but a joke. But you and I, we've been through that, and this is not our fate, So let us not talk falsely now, the hour is getting late."
All along the watchtower, princes kept the view While all the women came and went, barefoot servants, too.
Outside in the distance a wildcat did growl, Two riders were approaching, the wind began to howl.
I was wondering (yes, clutching at straws ) whether this specific song had any relevence to the plot/this episode... The first two lines are said by the (possibly) cylon characters. 'Two riders were approaching' could be applied to Apollo and Starbuck at the end of the episode, 'the wind began to howl' Agathon's comment that the weather is changing, a storm is coming. That said, anything can be interpreted to fit anything if you twist it enough; the song contains biblical/apocalyptical references (watchtower, fate, riders), as well as political/social commentary (businessmen/plowmen, juxtaposition of princes and barefoot servents) and ominous foreshadowing.
The questions the episodes raised are many...the relevance of the joint dreams of Athena/Six/Roslin? And the music heard by the four possible cylons? The same thing happening to Apollo as it did to Starbuck (cylon appearing then vanishing) and the appearance of Starbuck to Apollo (real? hallucination?) Why did the power on all the ships go out, and why did they come back at the moment four characters were revealed as cylons? And if those are the four cylons, where and who is the fifth?
It makes sense, assuming that Starbuck wasn't a figment of Apollo's imagination, that she's a cylon. It would explain what the earlier cylon was talking about in terms of destiny, and explain how she survived. Only thing with that is it seems a bit too obvious
Anyway, just belatedly sharing my thoughts and enthusiasm. My roomate sat there with her eyes glazed after it ended for several minutes trying to work out what's happening/predict what's going to happen __________________________ Indulge Me Consider Yourself Indulged - Immy ♥ Wow immy scored - Xorus |
